Dr Alarna Vrieling earned her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Social Work at Charles Sturt University studying the impact of war service on Vietnam veterans families (to read, click here)
She is an accredited Mental Health Social Worker with 20 years of clinical and community experience in rural, metropolitan, and international settings.
Skilled in focused psychological strategies, trauma-informed, intersectional, and recovery-oriented practices, she has worked extensively with Indigenous Australians, refugees, Defence personnel, and individuals affected by mental illness, domestic/family/sexual violence, torture/trauma, and addictions.
She has worked extensively across all hospital wards, in correctional and impatient psychiatric facilities, along side Australian Border Force personnel, the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Teams (SOCIT) and on Australian Defence Force bases.
Alongside offshore work in Nauru and Vietnam, her crisis experience extends to drought and bushfire recovery, where she deployed with Operation Veteran Assist and subsequently was awarded the National Emergency Medal (Clasp: Bushfires 19/20).
She delivers compassionate and practical support derived from an exceptionally diverse and fulfilling career.
Established in private practice and consultancy, she operates with a Medicare provider number, ABN, and all required insurances.
